Cornell School District
Cornell School District is a diminutive, suburban public school district in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. The district encompasses approximately 2 square miles. According to 2000 federal census data, it serves a resident population of 7,363. Per district officials, in school year 2007-08 the district provided basic educational services to 699 pupils through the employment of 65 teachers, 34 full-time and part-time support personnel, and 4 administrators. It serves students in the Pittsburgh suburbs of Coraopolis and Neville Township.
In 2009, the academic achievement of the students in the district was in the 30th percentile among Pennsylvania’s 500 school districts. Cornell School District was ranked 87th out of 105 western Pennsylvania school districts in 2010 by the Pittsburgh Business Times. The ranking was based on four years of student academic performance on the PSSAs on: math, reading, writing and 2 years of science. The district offers a variety of clubs, activities and sports. Eligibility for participation is set by school board policy and the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association.
